  1. 1. The automation effect: Investigating factors that influence the driver response process in a safety-relevant event during assisted driving and after unsupervised automation

    Författare :Linda Pipkorn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; driving performance; automated driving; driver behaviour; driver response; test track; take over; response process; automation;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Safe vehicle automation can be achieved through a detailed understanding of drivers’ ability to respond to a safety-relevant event after a period of automated driving. For instance, there is a need to understand in which scenarios automation effects are present (e.g. delayed response, degraded driving performance, crashing). LÄS MER

  2. 2. The driver response process in assisted and automated driving

    Författare :Linda Pipkorn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automation safety; take-over request; driver behavior; response process; automated driving; driving performance;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Safe assisted and automated driving can be achieved through a detailed understanding of the driver response process (the timing and quality of driver actions and visual behavior) triggered by an event such as a take-over request or a safety-relevant event. Importantly, most current evidence on driver response process in vehicle automation, and on automation effects (unsafe response process) is based on driving-simulator studies, whose results may not generalize to the real world. 3. 3. Facing failures : interactions between drivers and advanced driver assistance systems

    Författare :Niklas Strand; Håkan Alm; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adaptive cruise control; Driver assistance system; Driver; Behaviour; Thesis; Adaptiva farthållare; Förarstödssystem; Förare; Beteende; Doktorsavhandling; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Sammanfattning : Drivers’ interactions with advanced driver assistance systems based on experiences from real driving and results from driving in a driving simulator were under investigation in this thesis. Questions posed were: - How do drivers perceive and interact with ADAS? - How are (technical) failures handled by drivers, and which are the consequences’ of these failures? - Which are the implications for diagnosis and detection of failures, as well as for system development? Special attention was given to driver behavior in response to technical failures in an adaptive cruise control system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Driver interaction with vulnerable road users: Modelling driver behaviour in crossing scenarios

    Författare :Christian-Nils Åkerberg Boda; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Driver behaviour; Counterfactual analysis; Pedestrian; Driver model; Active Safety; Bicyclist; Euro NCAP;

    Sammanfattning : Every year, more than 5000 pedestrians and 2000 cyclists die on European roads. These vulnerable road users (VRUs) are especially at risk when interacting with cars. Intelligent safety systems (ISSs), designed to mitigate or avoid crashes between cars and VRUs, first entered the market a few years ago, and still need to be improved to be effective. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mind off driving: Effects of cognitive load on driver glance behaviour and response times

    Författare :Emma Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cognitive load; visual behaviour; lead vehicle braking; traffic safety; distraction; response times; driver behaviour; intersections;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Safe driving requires drivers to look at relevant information in the traffic environment and react in time in case a critical event arises. Concerns exist that cognitively loading tasks might interfere with drivers’ abilities to do this. LÄS MER
