  1. 1. Fluid flow in wood fiber network

    Författare :Patrik Pettersson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose material is processed to pulp suspensions and MDF boards in order to produce products such as papers, magazines, laminate floors or door skins. A critical stage of these processes is when the cellulose fiber networks are compressed to specific densities and when most of the fluid originally positioned between and inside the fibers is forced to leave the network. 2. 2. Experimental studies of large particles in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

    Författare :Sagar Zade; Luca Brandt; Fredrik Lundell; Ellen Longmire; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; finite-size; particle-laden flows; duct flow; pipe flow; viscoelastic fluid; viscoplastic fluid; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In everyday human life, laminar flow is arguably an exception whereas turbulent flow is the norm. Yet, the former has been much better understood, naturally since laminar flow renders itself to treatment in a relatively easier fashion compared to turbulence with its chaotic dynamics across multiple scales in space and time. 3. 3. Models of porous, elastic and rigid materials in moving fluids

    Författare :Ugis Lacis; Shervin Bagheri; Fredrik Lundell; Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fluid-structure-interaction; flow control; passive appendages; homogenization; poroelastic coatings; separated flows; surface-fluid interface; fluid-struktur-interaktion; flödeskontroll; passiva utväxter; homogenisering; ytbeläggning; separerade strömning; ytbeläggning-strömning gränssnitt; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Tails, fins, scales, and surface coatings are used by organisms for various tasks, including locomotion. Since millions of years of evolution have passed, we expect that the design of surface structures is optimal for the tasks of the organism. These structures serve as an inspiration in this thesis to identify new mechanisms for flow control. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nature-inspired passive flow control using various coatings and appendages

    Författare :Ugis Lacis; Shervin Bagheri; Christophe Eloy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flow control; passive appendage; surface coating; pressure drag; friction drag; Flödeskontroll; passiva bihang; ytbeläggning; tryckmotstånd; friktionsmotstånd;

    Sammanfattning : There is a wide variety of tails, fins, scales, riblets and surface coatings, which are used by motile animals in nature. Since organisms currently living on earth have gone through millions of years of evolution, one can expect that their design is optimal for their tasks, including locomotion. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Numerical study of flows related to aerated stirred tanks

    Författare :Dragana Arlov; Strömningsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasma; fluiddynamik; Gaser; plasmas; fluid dynamics; Gases; Lattice Boltzmann method; Volume of Fluid; Aerated stirred tank; Large Eddy Simulation; Eulerian-Lagrangian model; Energy research; Energiforskning; Mechanical engineering; hydraulics; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik;

    Sammanfattning : The overall purpose with this work is to investigate the bubbly flow in a aerated stirred tank using numerical simulations. Aerated stirred tanks are commonly used in chemical processes for producing for example insulin and antibiotics. LÄS MER
