6. Vitreoscilla Haemoglobin - Peroxidase Activity and Metabolic Aspects
Sammanfattning : The function of non-vertebrate haemoglobins (Hbs) appears more diverse than that of vertebrate Hbs, possibly reflecting the various demands to be met among their hosts. Sharing structural features with other haem proteins/enzymes, Hbs display a qualitative overlap in activities with functions extending beyond oxygen transport/storage. LÄS MER
7. Bis-locked nucleic acids : a new tool for double helix invasion
Sammanfattning : Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a macromolecule that contains the information for all living organisms to achieve important cellular processes such as growth and replication. DNA consists of two strands coiled around each other to form a double helix. LÄS MER
8. The Influence of Polyelectrolytes on the Stability of Colloids
Sammanfattning : The interaction between two colloids with grafted polyelectrolytes in aqueous solution is studied within the primitive model by Monte Carlo simulations. For neutral colloids with grafted polyelectrolytes and in absence of salt the interaction is strongly repulsive in absence of salt. LÄS MER
9. Coarse-Grained Models of Ionic Solutions
Sammanfattning : Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) are compounds composed entirely of ions, which are liquid at temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. Their high ionic strength and strong coupling make them useful for a number of applications, e.g. as electrolytes in supercapacitors. LÄS MER
10. Charged colloids observed by electrophoretic and diffusion NMR
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals partly with methodology including construction of hardware and new pulse sequences in the field of electrophoretic NMR, and partly with practical use of ENMR and diffusion NMR in the investigation of charged colloidal systems. Several sources of artefacts are investigated, including gas production at the electrodes, electroosmosis and Joule heating effects that can cause convection. LÄS MER
