  1. 1. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects

    Författare :Erik Droog Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Angela Shore; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Iontophoresis; Microcirculation; Laser-Doppler; Acetylcholine; Sodium nitroprusside; Pharmacodynamics; Pharmacokinetics skin; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Safety limit estimation for cataract induced by ultraviolet radiation

    Författare :Xiuqin Dong; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ultraviolet radiation UVR ; Sprague-Dawley rat; cataract; light scattering; doseresponse function; maximum acceptable dose MAD ; maximum tolerable dose MTD ; in vivo; in vitro; age.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is considered one of the major risk factors for agerelated cataract. UVR-induced cataract follows a continuous dose-response function. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Oral anticoagulation treatment in atrial fibrillation - To bleed or not to bleed, that is the question

    Författare :Mattias Wieloch; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anticoagulation; atrial fibrillation; hemorrhage; kidney; warfarin; epidemiology; stroke;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Oral antigoagulation treatment (OAT) with warfarin have a narrow therapeutic window and patients exhibit a highly variable doseresponse that is attributable to genetic, disease-related,and environmental factors as well as prescription and nonprescription drugs, dietary vitamin K and alcohol. The effect of warfarin treatement on blood coagulation is measured using international normalized ratio (INR). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Parental smoking, wheezing and sensitisation in early childhood

    Författare :Eva Lannerö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to explore the possible effects of exposure to cigarette smoking during foetal and early postnatal life on lower respiratory disease and sensitisation in children up to four years of age. A prospective birth cohort of 4,089 newborn infants (BAMSE) was followed during four years using parental questionnaires. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Myocardial angiogenesis induced by plasmid VEGF-A165 gene transfer : experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Nondita Sarkar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Coronary artery disease; vascular endothelial growth factor; therapeutic angiogenesis; gene transfer; plasmid DNA; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : New therapeutic options have emerged for patients with medically intractable angina who are not candidates for conventional revascularisation techniques, from increasing understanding of the biology of vessel formation and how different angiogenic growth factors participate in the process. Administration of vascular endothelial growth factor-A165 (VEGF-A165), a key regulator of vessel growth, has been shown to augment myocardial collateral growth. LÄS MER
