  1. 16. Effects of dopamine and excitotoxicity in experimental models of Huntington's disease

    Författare :Åsa Petersén; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; excitotoxicity; dopamine; Huntington s disease; striatum; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of a CAG repeat in the HD gene, that leads to dysfunction and death of striatal neurons. The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying HD are not known, but excitotoxicity and dopamine (DA) have been suggested to play a role. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Cytochrome P450 2E1 - relevance for central dopamine neurotransmission and Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Haydeh Niazi Shahabi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :cytochrome P450 2E1; dopamine; substantia nigra; polymorphism; alternative splicing;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The enzyme cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) has been found in dopamine (DA) containing brain regions that are of relevance for Parkinson?s disease (PD), and is known to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), toxic molecules that have been implicated in the degeneration of DA neurones. In addition, previous investigations have indicated that inhibition of CYP2E1 increases extracellular DA in the substantia nigra, a nucleus which degenerates in PD. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Selectivity of dopamine D1 and D2 receptor agonists – A combined computational approach

    Författare :Marcus Malo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dopamine; agonists; GPCRs; pharmacophore modeling; protein structure modeling; agonist selectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) is an endogenous neurotransmitter acting in the central nervous system. DA plays a key role in many vital brain functions such as behavior, cognition, motor activity, learning, and reward. Dopamine receptors belong to the rhodopsin like family of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). LÄS MER

  4. 19. Dopamine and the affective-cognitive gradient in the human striatum studied with multimodal brain imaging

    Författare :Filip Grill; Anna Rieckmann; Lars Nyberg; Alison Adcock; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopamine; striatum; incentive; motor; associative; reinforcement learning; reward prediction error; positron emission tomography; functional magnetic resonance imaging; PET MR; cognitive modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Both dopamine and the dopamine rich brain area, striatum, have been linked to behaviors related to incentives, motor action, and associative processing. Most of the cortex sends projections to the striatum, these connections have been described as a gradient organization representing a repertoire of functional behaviors. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Ethanol-induced modulation of dopamine transmission and synaptic activity in striatal subregions - focus on inhibitory receptors

    Författare :Rhona B. C. Clarke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopamine; ethanol; acetaldehyde; striatum; glycine receptor; GABA A receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Alcoholism is a chronic brain disease, affecting neurocircuitries involved in reward and learning. The rewarding effects of alcohol (ethanol) are believed to result from increased dopamine levels in the nucleus accumbens (nAc) via the mesolimbic system. LÄS MER
