  1. 1. Variation in length of proteins by repeats and disorder regions

    Författare :Rauan Sagit; Arne Elofsson; Andrey Kajava; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein length; repeats; domain repeats; protein evolution; duplication; tandem duplication; intrinsic disorder; intrinsically disordered; variation in length; insertion; deletion; recombination; expansion; contraction; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-coding genes evolve together with their genome and acquire changes, some of which affect the length of their protein products. This explains why equivalent proteins from different species can exhibit length differences. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) proteins : possible prognostic markers in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, and oropharymgeal squamous cell carcinoma

    Författare :Husam Oda; David Lindquist; Eva Lundin; Ulrika Ottander; Kristina Stefansson; Kate Cuschieri; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma; endometrial carcinoma; oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma; LRIG1-3; HPV; LMO7; HPV-driven; non-HPV-driven; prognosis; overall survival; disease-free survival; p53; Ki-67; CD8 TILs; CD44.; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The human leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domain (LRIG) gene family comprises three genes, LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3, which encode the LRIG1, LRIG2 and LRIG3 proteins, respectively. Previous stidies have revealed the different prognostic roles of these proteins in different cancers, and it has been shown that LRIG1 functions as a tumour suppressor in certain cancers via its negative regulation of several receptor tyrosine kinases. 3. 3. Domain rearrangement and creation in protein evolution

    Författare :Diana Ekman; Arne Elofsson; Christine Orengo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are composed of domains, recurrent protein fragments with distinct structure, function and evolutionary history. Some domains exist only as single domain proteins, however, a majority of them are also combined with other domains. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Creation of new proteins - domain rearrangements and tandem duplications

    Författare :Åsa Björklund; Arne Elofsson; Sarah Teichmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are modular entities with domains as their building blocks. The domains are recurrent protein fragments with a distinct structure, function and evolutionary history. During evolution, proteins with new functions have been invented through rearrangements as well as differentiation of domains. LÄS MER

  5. 5. THE ANDROGEN RECEPTOR GGN POLYMORPHISM. Genetic and functional analyses

    Författare :Kristina Lundin; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Functional domain; Genetic predisposition; Reproductive function; Sex hormone; Transactivation function; Repeat; Polymorphism; Androgen receptor; Transcription factor; Medicin människa och djur ; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Male sex development and reproductive function is regulated by androgens acting via the androgen receptor (AR). The AR harbours two polymorphic repeats of CAG and GGN triplets, encoding glutamines and glycines, respectively. LÄS MER
