21. A kernel function approach to exact solutions of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland type models
Sammanfattning : This Doctoral thesis gives an introduction to the concept of kernel functionsand their signicance in the theory of special functions. Of particularinterest is the use of kernel function methods for constructing exact solutionsof Schrodinger type equations, in one spatial dimension, with interactions governedby elliptic functions. 22. From exotic superconductivity to QCD and back again searching things in common
Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted largely to two new features which Particle Physics and Condensed Matter theory have in common. The first part of the thesis is a discussion of formation of phases precursory to the chiral phase transition in relativistic models with four-fermion interactions, considered as toy models for QCD. 23. Theory of Crystal Fields and Magnetism of f-electron Systems
Sammanfattning : A parameter free approach for the calculation of the crystal field splitting of the lowest Russel-Saunders J-multiplet in f-electron systems has been developed and applied to selected compounds. The developed theory is applicable to general symmetries and is based on symmetry constrained density functional theory calculations in the local density or in the generalised gradient approximation. 24. Aspects of Yang-Mills Theory : Solitons, Dualities and Spin Chains
Sammanfattning : One of the still big problems in the Standard Model of particle physics is the problem of confinement. Quarks or other coloured particles have never been observed in isolation. Quarks are only observed in colour neutral bound states. The strong interactions are described using a Yang-Mills theory. LÄS MER
25. Torn, Spun and Chopped : Various Limits of String Theory
Sammanfattning : For the first time in the history of physics we stand in front of a theory that might actually serve as a unification of it all - string theory. It provides a self-consistent framework for gravity and quantum mechanics, which naturally incorporates matter and gauge interactions of the type seen in the standard model. LÄS MER
