  3. 3. Mitochondrial DNA in Sensitive Forensic Analysis

    Författare :Martina Nilsson; Marie Allen; Ulf Gyllensten; Antti Sajantila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Genetics; Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Nuclear DNA; Quantification; Real-time PCR; Immobilised SSO probe assay; Pyrosequencing; Discrimination power; Coding region; Mixtures; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic profiling is commonly performed on the autosomes using multiple DNA markers. Although routine forensic DNA analysis is robust and based on reliable technologies, samples with degraded or limited amounts of DNA often fail. In these cases, the analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be very valuable due to the high copy number per cell. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Polarized light spectroscopy studies of model membranes and DNA

    Författare :Maxim Kogan; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; emission; ruthenium dipyridophenazine complex; lipid bilayer; linear dichroism; membrane model; membrane orientation; bimolecular probe; DNA;

    Sammanfattning : Over the past decades Linear Dichroism (LD) spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool for studies of structure and functioning of different cell constituents, including DNA, cell membranes and proteins. Due to structural complexity of cell constituents, the LD studies of biomolecules depend on development of simplified model systems, which can mimic the original structure and functionality of the cell components. 5. 5. Chiral Ruthenium Dipyrodiphenazine Complexes: DNA Binding and Excited State Relaxation

    Författare :Björn Önfelt; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :polarization spectroscopy; DNA-probe; dppz; excited-state relaxation; intercalation; solvent relaxation; DNA-threading;

    Sammanfattning : Ruthenium complexes with aromatic ligands have been extensively studied due to their interesting photophysical properties, including photophysics and electron transfer upon interaction with nucleic acids. For example, the broad absorption spectrum makes them suitable as antenna molecules in photochemical reaction systems and their ability to accept or donate electrons in their excited state could have potential in opto-electronical devices.
