  1. 1. Migration in Prehistory : DNA and stable isotope analyses of Swedish skeletal material

    Författare :Anna Linderholm; Kerstin Lidén; Oliver Craig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Migration; ancient DNA; stable isotopes; δ13C; δ15N; δ34S; mtDNA; lactose tolerance; Neolithic; Pitted Ware culture; Funnel Beaker culture; Vikings; Öland; Rössberga; Birka; Björned; Archaeology; Arkeologi; Archaeological Science; laborativ arkeologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis is to show how scientific methods may be used to look at migration in prehistory on the basis of archaeological material. The individuals examined represent the period 4 000 BC to 1 000 AD and have their geographical origins in various parts of Sweden.Ancient DNA analysis is employed in three cases. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mended by masticates : A study of archaeogenetic proxies of migration, settlement and health in North Eurasian Mesolithic

    Författare :Natalija Kashuba; Anders Kaliff; Mattias Jakobsson; Torun Zachrisson; Tiina Maria Mattila; Lehti Saag; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Archaeogenetics; Mesolithic population genetics; human identity; post-LGM hunter-gatherer societies; aDNA; metagenomics; masticates pitch resin; molecular paleopathology; Archaeology; Arkeologi; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Sammanfattning : A joint archaeogenetic perspective integrates diverse lines of evidence from archaeology and paleogenetics to advance our understanding of human prehistory. In this thesis I contribute to the corpus of archaeogenetic data by producing and analysing ancient genomic data from osseous and masticated material. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Acquired or inherited prestige? : molecular studies of family structures and local horses in Central Svealand during the Early Medieval period

    Författare :Anders Götherström; Mark G. Thomas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ancient DNA; boat cemeteries; Early Medieval Period; Central Svealand; bone preservation; inheritance; acquired status; inherited status; arkeologi; Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : This is a study of the role of inheritance among the élite in Early Medieval central Svealand and the possibility to study it by molecular genetic methods. The study is a part of the research project Svealand in the Vendel and Viking periods (SIV). The study rests on classical as well as a new type of source material. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Prehistoric human impact on wild mammalian populations in Scandinavia

    Författare :Hans Ahlgren; Kerstin Lidén; Anders Angerbjörn; Anders Götherström; Gørill Nilsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; hunter-gatherers; Baltic Sea; Mesolithic period; grey seal; harp seal; mountain hare; moose; ancient DNA; hunting; translocation; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the interactions of pre-agricultural societies in Scandinavia with wild mammals, for example in terms of hunting and translocation. More specifically, the aim is to investigate the possibility of identifying examples of overexploitation, targeted hunting or translocation of wild mammals in prehistoric Scandinavia, and to discuss the implications this could have had for both the wild animals and the humans. Sammanfattning : This thesis “Molecular Palaeopathology. Ancient DNA analyses of the bacterial diseases tuberculosis and leprosy” deals with molecular palaeopathology, i.e. in this case the use of molecular methods to analyse ancient bacterial DNA in order to get further knowledge of diseases in ancient times.
