16. Expanding the Chlamydiae tree : Insights into genome diversity and evolution
Sammanfattning : Chlamydiae is a phylum of obligate intracellular bacteria. They have a conserved lifecycle and infect eukaryotic hosts, ranging from animals to amoeba. Chlamydiae includes pathogens, and is well-studied from a medical perspective. LÄS MER
17. Plant species diversity patterns in a Swedish rural landscape : effects of the past and consequences for the future
Sammanfattning : Plant species richness in rural landscapes is threatened as grassland management ceases or changes, and as many remaining semi-natural grasslands are becoming increasingly fragmented. This thesis is a study of plant species diversity in a rural landscape in south-eastern Sweden, and its relationship to management history and landscape pattern. LÄS MER
18. Impact of climate warming on Arctic plant diversity: phylogenetic diversity unravels opposing shrub responses in a warming tundra
Sammanfattning : The Arctic biome is at significant risk, with recent observations suggesting that climate change is warming the Arctic nearly four times faster than the global average. Last decade, evidence from experimental warming studies and observations of ambient warming over time shows how increasing air temperature in the Arctic has led to changes to arctic vegetation, and encroachment of trees and shrubs into the tundra. 19. Mosquitoes as a Part of Wetland Biodiversity
Sammanfattning : Wetlands contain both aquatic and terrestrial environments which generates high biodiversity. However, they are commonly associated with mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae), and mosquitoes are usually regarded as negative by humans because they can cause nuisance and transmit diseases. LÄS MER
20. Plant Species Composition and Diversity in Cliff and Mountain Ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Ecosystems today are under increasing pressure from a rapidly changing climate, changes in land-use, habitat fragmentation and degradation and increasing anthropogenic disturbance. Studying drivers of biodiversity patterns is of increasing importance for understanding the dynamics of communities and their reactions and adaptation to changes in the future. LÄS MER
