  1. 1. Nitric Oxide Reductase from Paracoccus denitrificans : A Proton Transfer Pathway from the “Wrong” Side

    Författare :Ulrika Flock; Pia Ädelroth; Simon de Vries; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; denitrification; nitric oxide reductase; heme copper oxidase superfamily; divergent member; proton transfer; electron transfer; single turnover; spectroscopy; periplasm; glutamate; proton pathway; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Denitrification is an anaerobic process performed by several soil bacteria as an alternative to aerobic respiration. A key-step in denitrification (the N-N-bond is made) is catalyzed by nitric oxide reductase (NOR); 2NO + 2e- + 2H+ → N2O + H2O. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Fate of Organized Labor : Explaining Unionization, Wage Inequality, and Strikes across Time and Space

    Författare :Sven Oskarsson; Torsten Svensson; Jörgen Hermansson; Karl Ove Moene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Political science; Statsvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The point of departure for this thesis is the divergent fate of organized labor during the last decades in the Western world. Given what we know about actual trends, how are we to explain the variation in the strength of organized labor across time and space? The thesis consists of four self-contained essays. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bioinformatics studies on the mechanisms of gene regulation in vertebrates

    Författare :Awaisa Ghazal; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Gene regulation implicates an important role in organismal complexity through contributing to phenotypic variation. In my thesis, I studied three diverse components of gene regulatory networks including transcription factors, DNA methylation and microRNAs to elucidate their role in vertebrates. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular characterization and prevalence of hepatitis E virus in Swedish wild animals : a zoonotic perspective

    Författare :Jay Lin; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Observation of chronic hepatitis E virus (HEV) in immunosuppressed patients, and unexplained high hepatitis E virus (HEV) prevalence in the human population raises public health concern. The aim of this thesis is to molecular characterize and investigate the prevalence of HEV in Swedish wild life and their association with HEV transmission to humans. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular characterization and evolution of alpha-actinin : from protozoa to vertebrates

    Författare :Ana Virel; Lars Backman; Kristina Djinovic-Carugo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; evolution; spectrin repeat; intragene duplication; phylogenetic tree; spectrin superfamily; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : alpha-actinin is a ubiquitous protein found in most eukaryotic organisms. The ability to form dimers allows alpha-actinin to cross-link actin in different structures. In muscle cells alpha-actinin is found at the Z-disk of sarcomeres. LÄS MER
