11. Distributed Algorithms and Educational Simulation/Visualisation in Collaborative Environments
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines a general class of applications called collaborative environments which allow in real-time multiple users to share and modify information in spite of not being present at the same physical location. Two views on collaborative environments have been taken by examining algorithms supporting the implementation of collaborative environments as well as using collaboration to support educational visualisation/simulation environments in the context of distributed computing. 12. Towards Enhancing Awareness in Designing Collaborative Computing Systems
Sammanfattning : Awareness is critical to the success of collaborative activities. User awareness (from here on: awareness) is a system’s capacity to provide comprehensible and appropriate communication cues from one user to the other users of the same system. LÄS MER
13. Working together when being apart : An analysis of distributed collaborative work through ICT from an organizational and psychosocial perspective
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the research is to analyze collaboration and communication in distributed teams working together through ICT (Information and Communication Technology), to provide an overview and a broader understanding of important areas that require consideration. The analysis is from an organizational, psychosocial and managerial perspective, with the aim to support the development of strategies and the creation of more efficient and pleasant distributed work environments. 14. Supporting Video-mediated Communication over the Internet
Sammanfattning : The tremendous success of the Internet in providing a global communication infrastructure for a wide variety of applications has inspired the invention of packet video systems for synchronous interpersonal communication. The potential benefits of video-mediated communication are numerous, ranging from improved social interactions between individuals to more efficient distributed collaborative work. LÄS MER
15. On distributed real-time systems : the mStar environment, net-based learning and context-aware applications
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents two frameworks for distributed real-time systems, the mStar environment for Computer Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW) and the Alipes architecture for context-aware applications, from the perspective of distributed teamwork and net-based learning. The mStar environment was designed to be symmetric and fully distributed, which allows all users equal access and thus full interactivity, as well as scalable through the use of IP multicast and a server-less design.
