21. Chemical Modification of Electrospun Cellulose Nanofibers
Sammanfattning : The forest industry is a large part of the Swedish economy and the export of pulp, paper and wood products constitutes 11% of the total Swedish export of goods. The main product of a pulp mill is purified cellulose, which has many great properties like biodegradability and non-toxicity. LÄS MER
22. Nonionic surfactants : A multivariate study
Sammanfattning : In this thesis technical nonionic surfactants are studied using multivariate techniques. The surfactants studied were alkyl ethoxylates (AEOs) and alkyl polyglucosides (APGs). The aquatic toxicity of the surfactants towards two organisms, a shrimp and a rotifer, was examined. The specified effect was lethality, LC50, as indicated by immobilisation. LÄS MER
23. Experimental study of alkalinisation of cellulose in industrial relevant conditions
Sammanfattning : Mercerisation of cellulose pulp with a solution of NaOH is the first step of manufacturing cellulose-based value-added products, e.g. viscose fibres and cellulose ethers. During this process, cellulose transforms into a swollen crystalline structure, alkali cellulose (Na-Cell). LÄS MER
24. Catalytic valorization of lignocellulose : Direct and sidestream upgrading approaches
Sammanfattning : This work aims to explore different approaches for the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass. In this regard, two different strategies are presented: the catalytic upgrading of lignocellulose derivatives from industrial streams, such as pyrolytic oil and kraft lignin, and the direct catalytic fractionation of woody biomass. 25. Characterization of cellulose in post-consumer cotton textiles
Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis is to provide a background to the recycling of cotton. Since cotton consists of pure cellulose, it might be possible to include used cotton, in the already existing viscose industry. LÄS MER
