16. Model studies of cellulose fibers and films and their relation to paper strength
Sammanfattning : The objectives of this work were (i) to develop a new methodfor the preparation of thin cellulose model films, (ii) to usethese model films for swelling measurements and (iii) to relatethe swelling of fibers and films to the dry strength ofpaper. In the new film preparation method, NMMO(N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide) was used to dissolve cellulose andDMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) was added to control the viscosity ofthe cellulose solution. 17. Conversion of Wood and Non-wood Paper-grade Pulps to Dissolving-grade Pulps
Sammanfattning : Dissolving-grade pulps are commonly used for the production of cellulose derivatives and regenerated cellulose. To obtain products of high quality, these so-called "special" pulps must fulfill certain requirements, such as high cellulose content, low hemicellulose content, a uniform molecular weight distribution and high cellulose reactivity. 18. From recovery boiler to integration of a textile fiber plant : Combination of mass balance analysis and chemical engineering
Sammanfattning : Modern chemical technology is an efficient tool for solving problems, particularly within the complex environment of the pulp and paper industry, and the combination of experimental studies, mill data and mass balance calculations are of fundamental importance to the development of the industry. In this study various examples are presented, whereby chemical technology is of fundamental importance. LÄS MER
19. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing
Sammanfattning : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted. 20. Multivariate Analysis of 2D-NMR Spectroscopy : Applications in wood science and metabolomics
Sammanfattning : Wood is our most important renewable resource. We need better quality and quantity both according to the wood itself and the processes that are using wood as a raw material. Hence, the understanding of the chemical composition of the wood is of high importance. LÄS MER
