16. Biosensor Studies of Ligand Interactions with Structurally Flexible Enzymes : Applications for Antiviral Drug Development
Sammanfattning : The use of a surface plasmon biosensor fills a missing link in kinetic studies of enzymes, since it measures directly the interaction between biomolecules and allows determination of parameters that are determined only indirectly in activity assays. The present thesis deals with kinetic and dynamic aspects of ligand binding to two viral enzymes: the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) protease and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 RT). 17. Synthesis and binding studies of 9,10-disubstituted anthracene and dibenzobarrelene-based receptors for recognition of carbohydrates in water
Sammanfattning : Artificial, amfiphilic, and biomimetic receptors soluble in water were synthesized via attaching polar amino acids to hydrophobic back-bones possessing a surface suitable for hydrophobic interactions. The hydrophobic back-bones chosen in this thesis were anthracene and dibenzobarrelene structures. LÄS MER
18. Investigations of α-D-isosaccharinate: Fundamental Properties and Complexation
Sammanfattning : Waste products containing cellulose will be present in the planned underground radioactive waste repositories. It will be exposed to an alkaline environment for long periods of time. Under such conditions cellulose will degrade forming mainly isosaccharinate. LÄS MER
19. Signal Enhancement by Dynamic Polymers in Quartz Crystal Microbalance Applications
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents studies of signal enhancement by dynamic polymers in quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) applications. The aim of the study has been to determine the potential for the use of polymers on QCM sensors for signal enhancement in molecular interaction studies. LÄS MER
20. Development of miniaturised flow systems for wet chemical applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on five papers addressing different types of analytical problems. In Papers I and II, the development of a miniaturised flow system is described as well as its use for monitoring compounds in industrial processes. LÄS MER
