16. Structure and Dynamics of Silica Dispersions and Gels
Sammanfattning : This thesis deal with the sol-gel transition of two quite different systems, both based on silica. The overall aim is to understand what interactions lead to this sol-gel transition and how the structure and dynamics change as a result of this. The first project concern the gelation of water glass, also known as alkaline sodium silicate solutions. 17. Milk Membrane Lipids - Dispersions, Emulsions and Interactions with Proteins
Sammanfattning : Milk is a dilute aqueous dispersion with a complex mixture of proteins, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Milk membrane lipids are a part of the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM), which covers the fat globules. During dairy processing membrane material is released and surface structure features are altered. LÄS MER
18. Experimental and numerical investigations of hydrodynamic focusing of colloidal dispersions
Sammanfattning : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). LÄS MER
19. Polymer-Mediated Interactions and Phase Behaviour of Polymer-Particle Dispersions
Sammanfattning : Interactions between colloidal particles can be modelled by particles grafted with polymers. In this work, structural and physical properties of colloids are investigated under variation of parameters such as pH, ionic strength, and temperature, where aggregation and cluster formation can be monitored in aqueous solution. 20. Structure, Dynamics and Phase Behaviour of Charged Soft Colloidal Dispersions
Sammanfattning : Soft and deformable ionic microgels such as poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid), PNIPAM-co-AA, microgels have shown to be a versatile alternative to the already well-established hard sphere model systems. Their tuneable interaction potential makes them well suited as model systems to study the phase behaviour found for particles interacting via a soft isotropic potential. LÄS MER
