21. Rheumatoid Arthritis in a 10-Year Perspective, Outcome for Patients Followed from Early Disease
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by persistent inflammation, progressive joint damage and disability. This thesis describes the outcome after 10 years in a cohort of 183 RA patients (116 women, 67 men) recruited 1985-89. The mean age was 51 years and symptom duration 11 months at inclusion. LÄS MER
22. Susceptibility to chronic liver disease
Sammanfattning : The onset and the progression of chronic liver disease involve environmental and genetic factors. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are important players in these processes and are the main storage site for retinol. LÄS MER
23. Clinical expressions of juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations and macular dystrophies: Electrophysiological and genetic studies
Sammanfattning : Hereditary retinal degenerations are the most frequent reason for severe visual handicap among young people in Scandinavia today. In the six papers included in this thesis the phenotypic expressions, with emphasis on the electrophysiological findings, of five different juvenile hereditary retinal degenerations are described. 24. Molecular epidemiology approach : nested case-control studies in glioma and lymphoid malignancies
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Nested case-control studies aim to link molecular markers with a certain outcome. Repeated prediagnostic samples may improve the evaluation of marker-disease associations. However, data regarding the benefit of repeated samples in such studies are sparse. LÄS MER
25. Mobile systems for monitoring Parkinson's disease
Sammanfattning : A challenge for the clinical management of Parkinson's disease (PD) is the large within- and between-patient variability in symptom profiles as well as the emergence of motor complications which represent a significant source of disability in patients. This thesis deals with the development and evaluation of methods and systems for supporting the management of PD by using repeated measures, consisting of subjective assessments of symptoms and objective assessments of motor function through fine motor tests (spirography and tapping), collected by means of a telemetry touch screen device.
