  3. 3. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death. 4. 4. Surviving Birth and Thriving : Identifying infants at risk of death and disability in low- and middle-income countries

    Författare :Antti Kukka; Ashish KC; Helena Litorp; Nick Brown; Thorkild Tylleskär; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pediatrics; neonatology; physiology; neonatal encephalopathy; hypoxia-ischemia; heart rate; neonatal resuscitation; neonatal follow-up; disabiltiy; cerebral palsy; general movements assessment; global health; low- and middle-income countries; pilot projects; telemedicine; qualitative research; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Ending preventable newborn deaths is an unfinished global health agenda. Infants surviving birth have a right to thrive and to reach their full developmental potential. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Calcium channel activity and force regulation in smooth muscle: Effects of polyamines and growth stimulation

    Författare :Maria Gomez; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; verapamil; tissue culture; portal vein; patch-clamp; calcium; spermidine; spermine; polyamines; excitation-contraction; smooth muscle; calcium channel; ionomycin.; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The initial signal for contraction in smooth muscle is an increase in [Ca2+]i. Ca2+ ions can either enter the cytosol from the extracellular medium or be released from intracellular stores. Voltage-operated Ca2+ channels (VOC) play a dominant role in the activation of smooth muscle contraction. LÄS MER
