16. Structural insights into glycoprotein transport and viral escape
Sammanfattning : The correct trafficking of proteins through the secretory pathway is essential for the maintenance of cellular functions. Increasing evidence suggests that at least for some glycoproteins, export from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is mediated by interaction with cargo receptors. LÄS MER
17. Electron transport studies in epitaxial graphene on SiC
Sammanfattning : Furthermore, the dispersion in graphene k is light-like for graphene monolayers implying that electron transport would behave relativistically. If vsat = vf could be achieved in the material, then it is theoretically possible to achieve THz performance in long channel devices. Despite the nice theoretical picture, Nature is hardly so forthcoming. LÄS MER
18. Integrin αVβ3-Directed Contraction by Connective Tissue Cells : Role in Control of Interstitial Fluid Pressure and Modulation by Bacterial Proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed at studying mechanisms involved in control of tissue fluid homeostasis during inflammation. The interstitial fluid pressure (PIF) is of importance for control of tissue fluid balance. A lowering of PIF in vivo will result in a transport of fluid from the circulation into the tissue, leading to edema. LÄS MER
19. Ethanol production by recombinant and natural xylose-utilising yeasts
Sammanfattning : The xylose-fermenting capacity of recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae carrying XYL1 and XYL2 from Pichia stipitis, which encode xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), respectively, is poor due to high xylitol formation. Whereas, P. LÄS MER
20. In vitro studies on the mechanisms of inhibited thyroidal iodide uptake and destructive thyroiditis as adverse effects of amiodarone and interferon-gamma
Sammanfattning : The clinical use of the potent anti-arrhythmic drug amiodarone is limited due to adverse effects e.g. in the thyroid comprising both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction can occur in subjects with normal thyroid glands but also in those with an underlying thyroid abnormality resulting in an aggravation of the condition. LÄS MER
