1. Studies of DNA repair strategies in response to complex DNA damages
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study the role of the indirect actions of γ-rays and α-particles on the complexity of primary DNA damages and the repair fidelity of major DNA repair pathways: non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), homologous recombination repair (HRR) and base excision repair (BER). The complexity of radiation-induced damages increases and the proximity between damages decreases with increasing LET due to formation of ionization clusters along the particle track. LÄS MER
2. Ligand Substitution and Solvent : Exchange Reactions of Palladium(II) and Platinum(II) Acetonitrile and Dimethyl Sulfoxide Complexes. A High-Pressure Stopped-Flow and NMR Study

3. Reaction mechanism of metalloenzymes studied by theoretical methods
Sammanfattning : Metalloenzymes catalyse a wide variety of reactions in nature. In the thesis, I have studied the reaction mechanism of three metalloenzymes, viz. LÄS MER
4. Structural and Spectroscopic Studies of Solvated Metal Ions
Sammanfattning : Crystallographic and spectroscopic studies have been performed of structures, coordination and chemical bonding for series of trivalent metal ions solvated by two oxygen-coordinating solvents, water and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The hydrated scandium(III) and lanthanoid(III) ions, La to Lu, are surrounded by tricapped trigonal prisms of aqua ligands in the isomorphous series of trifluoromethanesulfonates, [M(H2O)n](CF3SO3)3. 5. Structure and bonding of sulfur-containing molecules and complexes
Sammanfattning : Synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques enable investigations of the many important biological and environmental functions of the ubiquitous element sulfur. In this thesis the methods for interpreting sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectra are developed and applied for analyses of functional sulfur groups. LÄS MER
