21. Characterization and Engineering of Protein-Protein Interactions Involving PDZ Domains
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis has contributed with knowledge to several aspects of protein-protein interaction involving PDZ domains. A substantial amount of our proteome contains regions that are intrinsically disordered but fold upon ligand interaction. LÄS MER
22. Evolution of New Genes and Functions
Sammanfattning : To answer major evolutionary questions, we need a better understanding of the effects of mutations on specific functions and organism fitness. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate how new functions evolve and potential trade-offs with the original function. LÄS MER
23. Clinical Pharmacogenetics of Olanzapine : with Focus on FMO Gene Polymorphisms
Sammanfattning : Pharmacogenetics is the study of variability in drug response attributed to genetic variation. Olanzapine (OLA) is a widely used antipsychotic drug for schizophrenia treatment. The pharmacokinetics of OLA display large inter-individual variation leading to multiple-fold differences in drug exposure between patients at a given dose. LÄS MER
24. Cyclotides evolve : Studies on their natural distribution, structural diversity, and activity
Sammanfattning : The cyclotides are a family of naturally occurring peptides characterized by cyclic cystine knot (CCK) structural motif, which comprises a cyclic head-to-tail backbone featuring six conserved cysteine residues that form three disulfide bonds. This unique structural motif makes cyclotides exceptionally resistant to chemical, thermal and enzymatic degradation. LÄS MER
25. Removal and Replacement of Ribosomal Proteins : Effects on Bacterial Fitness and Ribosome Function
Sammanfattning : Protein synthesis is a complex process performed by sophisticated cellular particles known as ribosomes. Although RNA constitutes the major structural and functional component, ribosomes from all kingdoms contain an extensive array of proteins with largely undefined functional roles. LÄS MER
