16. Taming the Erratic : Representation and materialization in post-digital architectural design
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates materialization and representation in contemporary architectural design practice. Due to cultural and technological shifts, the act of design is no longer squarely located in the abstract realms of drawings or digital geometries. LÄS MER
17. Connecting digital and physical representations through semantics and geometry
Sammanfattning : The fields of geodesy and building information modeling (BIM) meet each other in the intersection between the physical and the digital world. Within the construction industry, the role of geodesy has typically been to describe the position of assets and to transform the geometries of those assets between coordinate systems suitable for design and coordinate systems with a known relation to the Earth. 18. Smart pavement maintenance and infrastructure operation through digital twins : Case study for Norvik Port, Sweden
Sammanfattning : There is an urgent need to make the way in which people and goods move more sustainable. Though pavements are one of the key components of road transportation networks and logistics systems, they are usually overlooked in systemic sustainability analyses. LÄS MER
19. Program Matters : From Drawing to Code
Sammanfattning : Whether on paper, on site or mediating between both, means for reading and writing geometry have been central to architecture: the use of compasses and rulers, strings, pins, stakes or plumb-lines enabled the analysis and reproduction of congruent figures on different surfaces since antiquity, and from the renaissance onwards, the consistent planar representation of three-dimensional shapes by means of projective geometry. Tacitly through practice, or explicitly encoded in classical geometry, the operational syntaxes of drawing instruments, real or imaginary, have determined the geometric literacies regulating the production and instruction of architecture. 20. CONCRETE FORM[ing]WORK : Design, Fabrication, Simulation and Correlation of Parametrically Patterned Flexible Formwork and Concrete
Sammanfattning : Concrete is one of the most commonly used construction materials, yet industrial fabrication continues to default to established standards of planar formwork and uniform cross-sections for the sake of simplicity and predictability. The research conducted within Concrete Form[ing]work explored alternative methods of producing concrete formwork with a simple, technical re-imagination of material: exchanging the familiar, i.
