1. Optical Analysis of biological media - continuous wave diffuse spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : The main topic of this thesis is real-time quantification of relevant chromophores and light scattering elements in biological media. The presented methods and instrumentation are based on continuous wave (steady-state) optical measurements of (a) spatially-resolved diffuse reflectance from bulk media and (b) combined spatially-resolved and goniometric measurements of re-emitted light from thin samples. 2. Model-based Approaches to Diffuse Optical Imaging and Dosimetry
Sammanfattning : The work within this thesis investigates Photodynamic therapy and Fluorescence imaging for therapeutics and visualization of deeply embedded lesions. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a cancer treatment modality that can eradicate tumors when light, a photosensible drug and oxygen are present. LÄS MER
3. Multi-Scattering: Computational light transport in turbid media
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents and describes the development of an online freely accessible software called Multi-Scattering for the computational modeling of light propagation in scattering and absorbing media. The model is based on the use of the Monte Carlo method, where billions of photon packets are being launched and tracked through simulated cubic volumes. LÄS MER
4. Laser Absorption Spectroscopy of Gas in Scattering Media
Sammanfattning : Absorption spectroscopy constitutes a chemical analysis tool which can be applied to various samples and application fields. This thesis focuses on gas absorption spectroscopy with the means of diode lasers - tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, TDLAS. LÄS MER
5. Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Applications of Spectroscopy in the Photon Migration Regime
Sammanfattning : The present thesis is devoted to two different matters: One part is the development of a novel optical technique for characterisation of solid pharmaceutical materials. The other part being the continued development of photon time-of-flight spectroscopy, as well as exploration of new application areas of this method. LÄS MER
