16. Hazardous substances in wastewater management
Sammanfattning : The extensive use of materials and substances in society causes diffuse source emissions that lead to uncontrolled spreading of hazardous substances, largely channelled via wastewater systems, to the surrounding nature. Complex mixtures of substances appear in wastewater as a result of use, wear, and corrosion of goods (e.g. LÄS MER
17. Dynamics of water pollution control : A regional evaluation
Sammanfattning : The 1970's saw a strong governmental backing of measures taken to improve surface water quality by reducing point-source emissions in Sweden. The aim of this thesis primarily was to evaluate the cost effectiveness of governmental strategies implemented to improve surface water quality and to study the relationship between policies adopted and current knowledge about different sources of pollution. 18. Tracing and apportioning sources of dioxins using multivariate pattern recognition techniques
Sammanfattning : High levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in edible fish in the Baltic Sea have raised health concerns in the Baltic region and the rest of Europe. Thus, there are urgent needs to characterize sources in order to formulate effective mitigation strategies. LÄS MER
19. Spatial and temporal dynamics of nutrients in two agricultural catchments in southeast Sweden
Sammanfattning : Many lakes and coast areas in Sweden and all over the globe suffer from eutrophication, caused by an overload of phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). In Sweden these emissions from point sources, e.g. LÄS MER
20. Spectroscopic characterisation of surface hydroxyls during catalytic methane oxidation
Sammanfattning : Implementation of methane rich fuels as to develop sustainable vehicle transports requires improved catalytic exhaust aftertreatment technologies to convert engine-out methane emissions to carbon dioxide and water by total oxidation. A main challenge is that water formed during combustion inhibits the methane oxidation reaction even over the most active palladium-based catalysts presently known. LÄS MER
