1. Multi-level modulation formats for high-speed optical transmission systems
Sammanfattning : Over the past several years, the use of multi-level modulation formats has enabledsignificant improvements in the field of optical fiber communication, particularlyin terms of per-channel bit-rate (i.e., line-rate) and spectral efficiency (SE), byencoding multiple bits per symbol. 2. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements
Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER
3. Elastic Neutron Scattering at 96 MeV
Sammanfattning : A facility for studies of elastic neutron scattering in the 50–130 MeV range has been developed. In addition to elastic neutron scattering, it has been used for (n,p) and (n,d) reaction experiments. The performance of the device has been illustrated in measurements of the (n,p) and (n,n) cross sections on 1H and 12C. LÄS MER
4. Aspects of Adapting Data Collection to Intrusion Detection
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on data collection and in particular data collection for intrusion detection purposes. Data collection is the first, and possibly most important activity in the overall intrusion detection process. The result of the detection can never be better than the data on which the detection is based. LÄS MER
5. Nuclease Activity as a Biomarker in Cancer Detection
Sammanfattning : Nucleases are a group of enzymes that cleave the phosphodiester bonds in nucleic acids. As such, nucleases act as biological scissors that exhibit a plethora of fundamental roles, in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, dependent or non-dependent on their catalytic capability. LÄS MER
