6. Retrieval practice and individual differences : exploring factors relevant to the benefit and use of retrieval practice
Sammanfattning : When students are studying outside of the classroom, they tend to use learning strategies that research has found to be relatively ineffective. This is problematic as a relatively large proportion of students do not finish compulsory school and/or upper-secondary school with sufficient grades. LÄS MER
7. The aging brain and changes in cognitive performance : Findings from morphometry and quantitative susceptibility mapping of iron
Sammanfattning : Brain aging is a heterogeneous phenomenon, and this thesis illustrates how the course of aging can vary within individuals over time and between individuals as a function of age, sex, and genetic variability. We used two contrasts from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), namely spin-lattice T1-weighted imaging, and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) from gradient-echo images, to picture the aging brain, by means of morphometric measures and brain-iron concentrations. 8. Sex differences in children's play behavior : A biological construction of gender?
Sammanfattning : The present thesis addressed the question of what causes sex differences in children's play behavior. In Study I, it was found that mothers have rather sex-stereotyped expectations for how their 1- and 3-year-old children will behave at the age of five, as regards sex-typed activities. 9. Age differences in first language attrition : A maturational constraints perspective
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates age-related differences in first language (L1) attrition in a second language (L2) setting. The thesis is based on four individual studies. LÄS MER
10. Sex differences in behavior and metabolism
Sammanfattning : Men and women exhibit distinct illness patterns and disparate responses to pharmacotherapies. However, there is a scarcity of preclinical studies that systematically compare the sexes. LÄS MER
