1. Dietary Patterns : Identification and Health Implications in the Swedish Population
Sammanfattning : We eat foods not nutrients. What is more, we eat them in combinations. Consequently, capturing our complex food habits is likely an advantage in nutrition research. The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was therefore to investigate dietary patterns in the Swedish population –nutrient intakes, nutritional biomarkers and health aspects. LÄS MER
2. Fatty Acid Desaturase Activities in Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Disease : Special Reference to Stearoyl-CoA-Desaturase and Biomarkers of Dietary Fat
Sammanfattning : The development of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular diseases have been suggested to be influenced more by the quality than the amount of dietary fat. The FA composition of serum lipids may be used as biomarkers of dietary fat quality. LÄS MER

4. Dietary Intake, Fatty Acid Biomarkers, and Abdominal Obesity : Population-Based Observational Studies
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the associations between fatty acid (FA) biomarkers, carbohydrate intake, and abdominal obesity (AO) and related anthropometric measures in a population-based cohort of men and women in Stockholm County. The overall hypothesis was that dietary fat quality assessed by serum and adipose tissue FA composition, and dietary intake of especially carbohydrates is associated with AO. LÄS MER
5. Diet and dietary biomarkers during pregnancy and lactation in relation to offspring allergy development
Sammanfattning : Allergy causes a large burden on society and reduces the quality of life for the individual. The increased allergy incidence over the last decades cannot be explained by genetics. Research has indicated that diet, which is a modifiable factor, might influence the risk of developing allergy. LÄS MER
