  1. 1. Metabolic consequences of a Paleolithic diet in obese postmenopausal women

    Författare :Caroline Blomquist; Tommy Olsson; Elin Chorell; Per-Arne Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Postmenopausal women; Paleolithic diet; randomized diet intervention; fat metabolism; low-grade inflammation; circulating fatty acids; diet validation; obesity; insulin resistance; Postmenopausala kvinnor; Paleolitisk kost; randomiserad kostintervention; fettmetabolism; fetma; låggradig inflammation; cirkulerande fettsyror; kostvalidering; fetma; insulin resistens; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundObesity, in particular abdominal adiposity, is associated with elevated fatty acids and pro-inflammatory adipokines, which are linked to ectopic fat storage and insulin resistance. During menopause, there is a redistribution of fat from the peripheral to abdominal depots. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Zebrafish models for large-scale genetic screens in dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis : Validation and application

    Författare :Manoj Kumar Bandaru; Marcel den Hoed; Anastasia Emmanouilidou; Ingelsson Erik; Shannon Fisher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; zebrafish; dyslipidemia; atherosclerosis; genetic screens; high-cholesterol diet; APOE; APOB; LDLR; APOC2; PCSK9; LPAR2; GATAD2A; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Hundreds of loci have been robustly associated with circulating lipids, atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease; but for most loci the causal genes and mechanisms remain uncharacterized. The overall aim of my thesis is to develop and validate novel in vivo model systems that are suitable for high-throughput, image-based genetic screens in coronary artery disease and related traits, and use these model systems to systematically characterize positional candidate genes. 3. 3. Complementary feeding based on Nordic foods : effects on nutrient intake, growth, biomarkers and eating behavior

    Författare :Ulrica Johansson; Torbjörn Lind; Inger Öhlund; Lene Lindberg; Anna Winkvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infant feeding; healthy diet; food preference; complementary feeding; eating behavior; repeated exposure; vegetables; fruit; Nordic diet; sustainable diet; nutrition; roots; berries; flavor learning; pediatrik; Pediatrics; Medicine; medicin; Nutrition; näringslära; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Early nutrition is fundamental to growth and development. Infants develop long lasting food preferences very early in life from food exposures when the brain is impressionable and sensory pathways are receptive. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of plant-food components in pelvic-organ cancer survivors - From feasibility to effects in randomized controlled dietary interventions

    Författare :Rebecca Ahlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynecological cancer; prostate cancer; pelvic radiotherapy; dietary fiber; phytoestrogens; digital application; validation;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The number of people who are surviving cancer is steadily growing. Dietary components have a potential role in preventing the side effects of treatment for pelvic-organ cancer, as well as tumor recurrence in survivors. However, the evidence for such specific dietary advice is currently lacking. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A Mediterranean dietary intervention study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Linda Hagfors; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Rheumatoid arthritis; Mediterranean diet; fatty acids; antioxidants; diet history interview; biological markers; doubly labelled water; energy expenditure;

    Sammanfattning : Case control studies have shown that a high consumption of fish, olive oil, and cooked vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These foods have a central position in the traditional Cretan Mediterranean diet, and it has been suggested that dietary factors contribute to the low prevalence of RA in Mediterranean countries.
