  1. 1. Design and Performance of Some Components for a Millimeter Wave Imaging Receiver

    Författare :Guillermo F. Delgado Gunckel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nipi MQW; imaging receiver; lens shaping; diplexer; kinoform; opto-electronic quasi-optical modulation; dielectric lenses; sideband filter; diffractive optics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the design and performance of some novel devices for an imaging receiver, operating in the frequency band centered at 100 GHz, to be used in radio astronomy research. The emphasis is given on simple, small and reliable devices in order to reduce the complexity of an already complex receiver. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On millimeter and submillimeter wave focal plane arrays implemented with MEMS waveguide switches

    Författare :Henrik Frid; Joachim Oberhammer; Vessen Vassilev; Mikro- och nanosystemteknik KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Extended Hemispherical Lens; Beam Steering; Focal Plane Array FPA ; Ray-Tracing; RF MEMS; waveguide switch; micromachined waveguide; submillimeter-wave; rectangular waveguide; terahertz; lenses; antenna theory; silicon; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents research towards enabling micromachined millimeter and submillimeter wave focal plane arrays (FPAs). The FPAs operate under the following principle: a switch network consisting of microelectromechanical (MEMS) switches, integrated with micromachined waveguides, is used to feed an array of antenna elements, located in the focal plane of a high-gain quasi-optical system. 3. 3. Optical interconnects and high frequency electronic packaging : SBU-materials, material characterization, LAP- & microprocessing

    Författare :Steffen Uhlig; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optical interconnects; overview opto coupling components; overview planar waveguide amplifiers; large area panel processing; polymer waveguides; multilayer thin film technology; ORMOCER®; sequential build up; permittivity; dielectric loss;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis is to discuss and demonstrate optical interconnect technologies. These can be used to enhance the data throughput capacity of future printed circuit boards and backplanes, i.e. exchange Copper conductors with light conductors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Photonic THz Generation and Quasioptical Integration for Imaging Applications

    Författare :Biddut Kumar Banik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nondestructive evaluation; semiconductor device modelling; uni-travelling-carrier photodiodes; millimetre wave and submillimetre wave generation; III-V semiconductors; photomixers; terahertz sources.; catadioptric lens; microwave imaging; dielectric loaded antennas; terahertz imaging; lens antennas; millimetre wave and submillimetre wave imaging;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the analysis and optimisation of the uni-travelling-carrier photodiode (UTC-PD) for continuous-wave generation in terahertz (THz) frequencyrange. Photonic THz generation using UTC-PDs is extremely promising as it offers wide tunability, adequate output power and room temperature operation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. High Frequency Microwave and Antenna Devices based on Transformation Optics and Glide-Symmetric Metasurfaces

    Författare :Mahsa Ebrahimpouri; Oscar Quevedo-Teruel; Nader Engheta; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Glide Symmetry; Transformation Optics; Lens Antennas; High Frequency; Microwave Devices; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The new generation of wireless communication networks intends to support data rate of Gbit/s. One solution to make it possible is to move upwards in frequency range to employ the unused spectrum in mm-wave frequencies. LÄS MER
