  1. 1. Beta Cell Function: from Human Genetics to Animal Models

    Författare :Martins Kalis; Diabetes - immunovirologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; animal model; Dicer1; genetics; genetic association; single nucleotide polymorphism; SNP; INS-1E; AAT; FOXP3; beta cell function; insulin secretion; FFAR1; insulin; T2D; glucose; T1D;

    Sammanfattning : Beta cell function is an important factor in the development of both Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 (T2D) diabetes mellitus. T1D is characterized by a primary defect in insulin secretion due to the immune-mediated beta cell destruction, however, the more common T2D beside insulin resistance also include impaired beta cell function as a consequence to abnormal glucose homeostasis. 2. 2. Studies of genetic mosaicism in rare diseases

    Författare :Sofia Frisk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mosaicism in human genetics refers to an individual harboring two or more genetic compositions, all derived from the same fertilized egg. Common signs of genetic mosaicism are asymmetric growth, skin aberrations or vascular malformations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic and molecular characterization of follicular thyroid tumors : diagnostic and prognostic aspects

    Författare :Johan Paulsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) is the second most common thyroid malignancy and it sometimes metastasize to lungs and bone. A substantial subset of these tumors lacks an identified driver event and no well-established prognostic and diagnostic markers exist. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dissecting the roles of viral T-antigens in Merkel cell carcinoma

    Författare :Jiwei Gao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare but aggressive form of skin malignancy with increasing incidence. Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) is associated with ~80% of MCCs, and a minority is caused by ultra-violet (UV)-induced DNA damage. The MCPyV T-antigens are major drivers for MCC oncogenesis. 5. 5. Dissecting the role of micro-RNAs in diabetes

    Författare :Caroline Bolmeson; Create Health; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; micro-RNA; Dicer; beta-cell function; insulin secretion; glucose; NOD mouse; Goto-Kakizaki rat; human islets; thymocytes; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : The role of miRNAs in pancreatic islets and β-cell function and in the development of diabetes in human and rodents have been investigated in this thesis. Dicer1 was specifically deleted in vivo in pancreatic β-cells under the RIP-promoter in mice. LÄS MER
