1. Numerical simulation of the dynamics of a trapped molecular ion
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the dynamics of a heteronuclear diatomic molecular ion, possessing a permanent electric dipole moment, µ, which is trapped in a linear Paul trap and can interact with an off-resonance laser field. To build our model we use the rigid-rotor approximation, where the dynamics of the molecular ion are limited to its translational and rotational motions of the center-of-mass. LÄS MER
2. Mutual neutralisation reactions in atmospheric and industrial plasmas
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with experimental studies of electron transfer reactions between oppositely charged ions (mutual neutralisation). These were performed at the unique double electrostatic ion storage ring DESIREE at Stockholm University, which was put into full operation in 2017. LÄS MER
3. Investigations of the breakup dynamics of small molecular ions recombining with electrons
Sammanfattning : Dissociative recombination is the process in which a molecular ion recombines with an electron and then fragments into neutral products. This process has been studied in many experiments over the years at the ion storage ring CRYRING at the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory, Stockholm University. LÄS MER
4. Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Atomic and Molecular Quantum Dynamics
Sammanfattning : An all-pervading feature of the work presented in this thesis is the study of ultrafast dynamics, both theoretically and experimentally, in terms of time-dependent wave functions (wave packets). We have experimentally, by pump-probe fluorescence spectroscopy, examined spin-orbit interactions, by time-tracing molecular wave packets on excited states of diatomic rubidium, and the main channels causing the fast predissociation from one of those states is revealed. 5. Theoretical studies of collisions involving the H2 reaction complex
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, collisions involving the H2 reaction complex are studied theoretically and the processes considered are mutual neutralization, double charge transfer, associative ionization, dissociative recombination and resonant ion-pair formation. These processes are examples of reactions that involve several excited states and where the Born-Oppenheimer approximation is not applicable. LÄS MER
