11. Diagnosing hyper- and hypocortisolism using saliva samples : pitfalls and how to avoid them
Sammanfattning : Background: Cushing's syndrome (CS) is caused by high cortisol secretion whereas insufficient cortisol secretion is called adrenal insufficiency (AI). Both are rare diseases with substantial diagnostic delay, and high morbidity and mortality even though effective treatment is available. LÄS MER
12. Methods for handling model misspecification in pharmacometric model-based approaches for the analysis of longitudinal clinical trial data
Sammanfattning : Pharmacometrics model-based analyses proved to be increasingly useful in drug discovery and development. This usefulness was made evident by the formalisation of the model-integrated drug discovery and development framework (MID3). LÄS MER
13. Laparoscopy Diagnostic applications in suspected appendicitis and access-related complications
Sammanfattning : Laparoscopic surgery was introduced to minimize patient trauma. However, fatal technique specific complications, due to major vascular or visceral injury, were at times seen related to blind abdominal access using the Veress technique. LÄS MER
14. Non-enhanced single-energy computed tomography of urinary stones
Sammanfattning : Computed tomography (CT) is the mainstay imaging method for urinary stones. The aim of this thesis was to optimize the information obtained from the initial CT scan to allow a well-founded diagnosis and prognosis, and to guide the clinician as early and as far as possible in the further treatment of urinary stone disease. 15. Re-evaluation of methods to identify individuals with increased risk of caries
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of coronal caries lesion development. The specific aims were to:•evaluate the accuracy of different methods used to identify individuals with increased risk of developing dental coronal caries lesions (study I)•design and pilot a novel classification system for the assessment of caries lesion progression in bitewing radiography and to report rater agreement of the system (study II)•assess intra-individual differences in biofilm acid-tolerance between different tooth surfaces and inter-individual variation as well as stability of acid tolerance over time (study III)•assess diagnostic accuracy of two established methods and a candidate method to identify adolescents with increased risk of dental coronal caries lesion development (study IV).
