  1. 6. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Cardiovascular mortality and morbidity in hypopituitary patients and metabolic effects of growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Birgitta Bulow; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucose metabolism; growth hormone replacement; growth hormone deficiency; long-term survival; craniopharyngioma; cardiovascular risk factors; Hypopituitarism; cardiovascular mortality; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Premature atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk factors and increased cardiovascular mortality have been shown in patients with hypopituitarism on conventional hormone treatment, but without growth hormone (GH) replacement. The aims of paper I-III were to investigate separately the risks for cerebrovascular and cardiac mortality as well as the incidence of cardiovascular disease in patients with hypopituitarism and to assess the long-term prognosis for patients with craniopharyngioma. 3. 8. Hypertension in a defined population. The Skaraborg Hypertension and Diabetes Project

    Författare :Erik Bøg-Hansen; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Socialmedicin; samhällsmedicin; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Social medicine; Cardiovascular system; sekretion; diabetologi; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; primary care.; treatment; survival; cardiovascular disease risk factors; insulin resistance; Hypertension; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : To examine cardiovascular disease risk factors, control of hypertension and survival in patients with hypertension treated in primary care, patients with hypertension and/or type 2 diabetes were surveyed for cardiovascular disease risk factors and treatment 1992-1993. For reference, a random population sample from the same community was surveyed 1993-1994. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Common variants in genes regulating free fatty acid metabolism and risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Martin Carlsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; free fatty acids; genetics; UCP1; beta3-adrenergic receptor; beta2-adrenergic receptor; type 2 diabetes mellitus; FABP2; stroke; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) with special reference to increased concentrations of free fatty acids (FFA) in 1174 Swedish diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. Common polymorphisms in the fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2), the B2-adrenergic receptor (B2-AR), the B3 -adrenergic receptor (B3-AR) and the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP-1) genes were related to anthropometric and metabolic variables. 5. 10. Genetics of diabetic subtypes

    Författare :Camilla Cervin; Diabetes - klinisk obesitasforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; Mutation; Association; Genetics; LADA; Diabetes; MODY; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : There are two major types of diabetes mellitus, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), however a number of subtypes have been defined and classified. Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness (MIDD) and Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) are monogenic forms, whereas Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is thought to be a polygenic subtype similar to T1D.
