Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the Annunciation motif and the use of images in a medieval socio-cultural context. There are almost 400 medieval images of the Annunciation from the period 1150–1550 in Sweden today. It is found in murals, baptismal fonts, paintings, wooden sculpture, stone reliefs, liturgical vessels, textile works and altarpieces. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Starting in about 1640, Sweden experienced a building boom among the nobility lasting up to 1680, when Charles XI initiated a massive withdrawal of Crown fiefs. Based on contemporary Swedish sources, the strategies and ideology behind these large new houses are discussed in connection with questions concerning visual identity – corporate as well as individual. 3. Rape and Religion in English Renaissance Literature : A Topical Study of Four Texts by Shakespeare, Drayton, and Middleton
Sammanfattning : This study argues that Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus (1594) and The Rape of Lucrece (1594), Michael Drayton’s Matilda (1594) and Thomas Middleton’s The Ghost of Lucrece (1600) are, in ways hitherto not realised, topically concerned with the religious controversies in the wake of the English Reformation. This concern is discussed on a general level of interest related to religious attitudes and practices significant at the time of writing, and on a specific level pertaining to events surrounding the capture of the Jesuit poet Robert Southwell in 1592, which included the rape or seduction of a Catholic woman. 5. Schuberts "Stora C-dursymfoni" : Kommunikationen med ett musikaliskt konstverk : en tillämping av Paul Ricoeurs tolkningsbegrepp
Sammanfattning : The dissertation demonstrates how it is possible to apply the French philosopher Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutics to a musical work-of-art and illustrates the approach with an interpretation of Schubert's Great C-major Symphony (D 944). Arguments are put forward to show that the meaning of a musical work-of-art can be naively grasped under favourable communicative conditions. LÄS MER
