1. Youth well-being within the family context : Belief and behavior patterns of Swedish fathers, mothers, and youths
Sammanfattning : Youth well-being is multifaceted, complex, and embedded in sociocultural contexts. In this dissertation, youth well-being is explored within the family context from a developmental niche theoretical perspective. LÄS MER
2. Coping with environmental change : Lessons from isotope studies in a sentinel species
Sammanfattning : Adaptive evolution and phenotypic plasticity are two key mechanisms by which natural populations avoid extinction in the face of environmental change. Evolutionary young systems, such as the Baltic Sea with low species diversity and steep environmental gradients, are good models for studying how wild populations cope with environmental changes, such as climate-induced alterations in food supply and exposure to environmental contaminants. 3. Sensory neurons : stem cells and development
Sammanfattning : The sensory nervous system is the only means we have of communicating with the surrounding world. The neurons responsible for the sensation of pain, touch, the ability to know the position of our limbs and part of maintenance of body posture are located in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG). LÄS MER
4. Phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in tadpoles
Sammanfattning : Amphibian larvae are plastic in many traits. Can plasticity buffer population divergence, so that local adaptation is more common in non-plastic traits? I argue that this may be the case for adaptive plastic responses. LÄS MER
5. Peripheral nerve glia as multipotent progenitors in craniofacial development
Sammanfattning : Craniofacial development is complex. Numerous populations of progenitor cells coordinate activities to produce an array of highly integrated tissues inside the developing head. However, it is not clear how some key multipotent progenitors continue to exist in late developing head compartments. LÄS MER
