16. Hidradenitis suppurativa : clinical studies with focus on evaluation
Sammanfattning : Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of mainly unknown aetiology which in most cases involves axillae or groins and that can last for decades. In this thesis different clinical aspects of HS are studied: development of a clinical scoring system, relation to smoking and obesity, outcome of laser surgery, bacteraemia in HS patients and distribution of the neuroendocrine marker protein gene product (PGP) 9. 17. Distribution of antiviral nucleoside analogues into brain and skin
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study physiological and physico-chemical factors influencing the pharmacokinetics and distribution over the blood-brain barrier of antiviral nucleoside analogues in the rat, and to study the distribution to the human skin in vivo of an anti-herpetic nucleoside analogue. Microdialysis was used to sample the free (unbound) extracellular concentration of the nucleoside analogues from the brain tissue, muscle and blood in the rat and from the dermis of healthy human volunteers. 18. Study of serotonin, innervation and sensory neuropeptides in allergic contact dermatitis
Sammanfattning : In a murine model of contact allergy, 24 h after challenge with antigen, increased axonal growth using an antibody to growth-associated protein-43 (GAP-43) was seen in the epidermis and dermis of eczematous skin. Protein gene product 9.5 (PGP 9.5) positive nerve fibres tended to increase in the eczematous skin. LÄS MER
19. Non-invasive monitoring of low molecular weight biomarkers relevant to skin inflammation and cancer
Sammanfattning : Development of skin inflammation and cancer in viable epidermis and dermis involve slow molecular weight (LMW) metabolites. We hypothesize that these LMW compounds can be collected on the surface of the skin and used for non-invasive diagnostics of skin disorders. LÄS MER
20. Guided Regeneration of the Human Skin : in vitro and in vivo studies
Sammanfattning : Every day and in all parts of the world, humans experience different grades of wounding and tissue loss of the skin, thus initiating one of the most complex biological processes. Acute and chronic wounds, as well as the additional problem of skin scarring, involve not only great suffering for the patient but also extensive health care costs for the society. LÄS MER
