  2. 2. Brain galanin sytems and their role in depression-like behaviour

    Författare :Eugenia Kuteeva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :5-HT1A receptor; depression-like behaviour; forced swim test; galanin; galanin-overexpressing; galanin receptor; noradrenaline; serotonin; transgenic mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of the neuropeptide galanin and galanin receptor subtypes in behavioural functions with a particular focus on depression-like behaviour. In agreement with its wide distribution in the central nervous system, galanin has been implicated in various functions, including regulation of reproduction, endocrine functions, antinociception, attention, learning and memory as well as regulation of mood.     Nyckelord :steroid hormone; ER system; in situ hybridization; rnRNA; ER serotonin; depression; affective disorders;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogens have for a long time been known to regulate neuroendocrine functions in the central nervous system (CNS), primarily related to reproduction. In recent years estrogens have been found to also modulate many other brain functions, for example mood and cognition. LÄS MER
