  1. 1. Cultural explanatory models of depression i Uganda

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience

    Författare :Elialilia Sarikiaeli Okello; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2006]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Depression; depression subtype; psychotic depression; culture; cultural competence; emic; etic; explanatory models; case vignette; qualitative research; help seeking; pathway to care; indigenous model; traditional healer; health policy.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Depressive disorders are among the most frequent psychiatric disorders, accounting for up to 30% of primary care service utilisation in developing countries in general, and Uganda in particular. However, delays in seeking treatment, misdiagnosis and non-specific treatments have compromised appropriate care for people with depression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Brain galanin sytems and their role in depression-like behaviour

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience

    Författare :Eugenia Kuteeva; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 5-HT1A receptor; depression-like behaviour; forced swim test; galanin; galanin-overexpressing; galanin receptor; noradrenaline; serotonin; transgenic mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of the neuropeptide galanin and galanin receptor subtypes in behavioural functions with a particular focus on depression-like behaviour. In agreement with its wide distribution in the central nervous system, galanin has been implicated in various functions, including regulation of reproduction, endocrine functions, antinociception, attention, learning and memory as well as regulation of mood. 3. 3. Serotonin in emotional memory processes : neuropharmacological studies with emphasis on depression

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Författare :Therese M. Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2012]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cognitive dysfunctions are common in neuropsychiatric disorders including Major Depressive Disorder, but are difficult to normalize by antidepressant therapies and contribute to reduced functional improvement. Cognitive impairments include alterations of emotional memory processes that are early targeted by antidepressant therapies, including Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Estrogen receptor gene activity within the brain and the relation to psychiatric disorders : mapping and function

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience

    Författare :Marie Österlund; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1999]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; steroid hormone; ER system; in situ hybridization; rnRNA; ER serotonin; depression; affective disorders;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogens have for a long time been known to regulate neuroendocrine functions in the central nervous system (CNS), primarily related to reproduction. In recent years estrogens have been found to also modulate many other brain functions, for example mood and cognition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Galanin receptor subtypes in rodent models of mood disorders

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience

    Författare :Tara Wardi-Le Maitre; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2010]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 5-HT1A receptor; galanin; galanin receptor 2 overexpressing mice; locus coeruleus; dorsal raphe; depression-like behavior; forced swim test;

    Sammanfattning : Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental illness, with a complex etiology. It is a multifactorial disorder caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and epigenetic factors. Exposure to stressful life events seems to be a common, contributing cause of morbidity.
