  1. 1. Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy : Genetic aetiology and as a risk factor in cataract surgery

    Författare :Andreas Viberg; Berit Byström; Irina Golovleva; Patrik Danielson; Madeleine Zetterberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy; genetics; TCF4; trinucleotide repeat disorder; registry-based study; cataract surgery; outcome; PROM; corneal transplantation; dense cataract; posterior capsule rupture; oftalmiatrik; ophthalmology; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a bilateral, often hereditary degenerative corneal disease, in which the disrupted endothelial cell function causes corneal swelling and reduced vision. An early clinical sign of FECD is corneal guttata, an irregularity of the endothelial layer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Superoxide dismutase 1 and cataract

    Författare :Eva Olofsson; Anders Behndig; Stefan Marklund; Marjorie Lou; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cataract; diabetes mellitus; nitric oxide; superoxide; superoxide dismutase; SOD1 null mice; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik; oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology;

    Sammanfattning : Light and oxygen generate harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the lens, causing biochemical changes that gradually disarrange the lens fibres resulting in light scattering and loss of transparency. In the healthy eye, this chronic exposure to oxidative stress may lead to age-related cataract. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Outcome after surgery of congenital cataract

    Författare :Anna Lundvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Congenital cataract; cataract surgery; intraocular lens; infant; paediatric; rabbit; complication; glaucoma; after-cataract; posterior capsule opacification.;

    Sammanfattning : The visual outcome in infants undergoing surgery for bilateral congenital cataract has improved considerably because of improved surgical methods and the realisation that early detection, allowing early cataract extraction and immediate optical correction, can prevent otherwise irreversible deprivation amblyopia. The management of unilateral congenital cataract is still of the most difficult problems in paediatric ophtalmology. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Oxidative stress and proteolysis in the lens. Effects of anti-inflammatory drugs

    Författare :Anne Kling-Petersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oxidation NSAIDs ASA dexamethasone apoptosis GSH GSSG proteasome lens epithelial cells mouse lens cataract;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress has been implied in formation of age-related cataract. The objectives of this thesis were to study redox regulation of proteolysis and oxidative/antioxidative effects of anti-inflammatory substances in human lens epithelial cells (HLEC) and intact mouse lenses.
