16. Characterization of Physiological and Pathological Alpha-Synuclein : Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders
Sammanfattning : Aggregated alpha-synuclein is the main component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, intraneuronal inclusions found in the brains of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) patients (synucleinopathies). Alpha-synuclein is a presynaptic protein, which is most commonly an unfolded monomer in its physiological state. LÄS MER
17. Apolipoprotein E and alpha-synuclein interactions, and their associations with neurodegenerative diseases
Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) is expressed as three major isoforms, APOE ε2, ε3 and ε4 that encode the apoE2, E3 and E4 proteins, respectively. APOE ε4 is associated with an increased risk for age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and increases the risk of dementia in Parkinson’s disease (PD), however, the exact molecular mechanisms underpinning the associations between APOE ε4 and neurodegeneration are still unknown. 18. Role of Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders
Sammanfattning : Synucleinopathies are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by intracellular protein aggregates, progressive neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation. Alpha-synuclein (a-syn) is the principal component of intracellular aggregates and can be modified by several mutations and post-translational modifications (PTMs), which can alter the protein structure affecting its aggregation, toxicity, and ability to spread. 19. Serotonin system in Alzheimer’s disease : from a molecular and biomarkers perspective
Sammanfattning : Serotonin, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter with a wide range of biological functions. It contributes to the integrity, connectivity and function of the central nervous system (CNS). LÄS MER
20. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment
Sammanfattning : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. LÄS MER
