  1. 16. Characterization of Physiological and Pathological Alpha-Synuclein : Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders

    Författare :Leire Almandoz Gil; Joakim Bergström; Martin Ingelsson; Kostas Vekrellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Parkinson’s disease; Dementia with Lewy bodies; Oxidative stress; Antibodies; Synapses; SNARE; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Aggregated alpha-synuclein is the main component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, intraneuronal inclusions found in the brains of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) patients (synucleinopathies). Alpha-synuclein is a presynaptic protein, which is most commonly an unfolded monomer in its physiological state. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Apolipoprotein E and alpha-synuclein interactions, and their associations with neurodegenerative diseases

    Författare :Daniel Twohig; Henrietta M. Nielsen; Andreas Barth; Tiago Fleming Outeiro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : The apolipoprotein E gene (APOE) is expressed as three major isoforms, APOE ε2, ε3 and ε4 that encode the apoE2, E3 and E4 proteins, respectively. APOE ε4 is associated with an increased risk for age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and increases the risk of dementia in Parkinson’s disease (PD), however, the exact molecular mechanisms underpinning the associations between APOE ε4 and neurodegeneration are still unknown. 3. 18. Role of Neuroinflammation in Parkinson's Disease and Related Disorders

    Författare :Edoardo Brandi; Neural plasticitet och reparation; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha synuclein; Preformed fibrils; Microglia; Astrocyte; Neuroinflammation; Lipopolysaccharides; Parkinson Disease; Lewy Body Dementia; Multiple system atrophy; Synucleinopathies;

    Sammanfattning : Synucleinopathies are neurodegenerative disorders characterized by intracellular protein aggregates, progressive neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation. Alpha-synuclein (a-syn) is the principal component of intracellular aggregates and can be modified by several mutations and post-translational modifications (PTMs), which can alter the protein structure affecting its aggregation, toxicity, and ability to spread. 4. 19. Serotonin system in Alzheimer’s disease : from a molecular and biomarkers perspective

    Författare :Walid Tajeddinn Abderhim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Serotonin, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter with a wide range of biological functions. It contributes to the integrity, connectivity and function of the central nervous system (CNS). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment

    Författare :Gabriel Gustafsson; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Tiago F Outeiro; Marina Romero-Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s Disease; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Oligomers; Monoclonal Antibody; Glia; Astrocyte; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. LÄS MER
