21. Bioprocess Monitoring and Control in Pseudomonas cepacia and recombinant Escherichia coli cultivations
Sammanfattning : The control of cultivation conditions and its influence on growth and production have been investigated. The use of fed-batch processes have been demonstrated for several cultivation systems and so has the use of different control signals in these systems. LÄS MER
22. Mutation profile at the hprt locus in T-cells of non-smoking males
Sammanfattning : Extensive studies have been done on mutations in several marker genes in order to predict health consequences such as carcinogenesis. However, more information about mutations arising in vivo in somatic cells is needed to understand the relationship between the different factors involved in mutagenesis such as DNA damage, DNA repair capacity and individual susceptibility, and to elucidate the influence of endogenous mechanisms and environmental exposures. 23. Viral parameters influencing clinical long-term non progression in HIV-1 infected subjects
Sammanfattning : A very small portion of the HIV-1 infected population is constituted by individuals, called long- term non progressors (LTNP), in whom after even a decade or more, no visible deterioration of the immune system is recognized and the infection remains therefore asymptomatic. The reasons for such "natural" prolonged well-being can be attributed to both the virus and the infected host and their understanding is likely to give important information for the development of an effective HIV- vaccine and for immune reconstitution therapy. 24. Fluorescence in situ hybridization for the detection of genetic alterations in prostate and bladder malignancies : significance as a genetic marker to predict the patient prognosis
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer and bladder cancer are common urological malignancies in man, while a lack of basic information underlying the oncogenesis and the tumor progression makes it difficult to form therapeutic strategies against these malignancies. Recent advances of molecular biology revealed that genetic alteration play a crucial role in the oncogenesis and progression of these tumors. LÄS MER
25. Human papillomaviruses : role in cervical dysplasia and carcinoma, and use as molecular risk marker for progression
Sammanfattning : The general aim of these studies was to define the role of infection with oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPV) for development of cervical dysplasia and to obtain early molecular markers for progression to carcinoma. The results of cytological screening of 500 women in the Stockholm Gynaecologic Health Control were compared with HPV detection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and in situ hybridisation (ISH).
