16. Interaction strength and responses of ecological communities to disturbances
Sammanfattning : Ecological communities are continuously exposed to natural or anthropogenic disturbances of varied intensity and frequency. The way communities respond to disturbances can depend on various factors, such as number of species, structural characteristics of the community, stability properties, species characteristics and the nature of the disturbance. 17. Mine the Gaps : Evolution of Eukaryotic Protein Indels and their Application for Testing Deep Phylogeny
Sammanfattning : Insertions/deletions (indels) are potentially powerful evolutionary markers, but little is known about their evolution and few tools exist to effectively study them. To address this, I developed SeqFIRE, a tool for automated identification and extraction of indels from protein multiple sequence alignments. LÄS MER

19. The mutational landscape and microenvironment in myelodysplastic syndromes with deletion of chromosome 5q
Sammanfattning : Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) with deletion of chromosome 5q (del(5q) are malignant bone marrow disorders characterized by macrocytic anemia, chronic transfusion dependency and an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia. A high proportion of patients with lower-risk del(5q) myelodysplastic syndromes will respond to lenalidomide treatment, but more than 40% of patients have progressed to acute leukemia five years after starting treatment. 20. On the aetiology of ALS : a comprehensive genetic study
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a deadly, progressive neuromuscular disease that affects individuals all over the world. About 10% of the patients have a familial predisposition (FALS) while the remainder of cases are isolated or sporadic (SALS) and of unknown cause. LÄS MER
