1. Clinical Bedside Studies of Cerebral Blood Flow in Severe Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Using Xenon CT
Sammanfattning : Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is frequently complicated by delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), contributing to poor outcome. Particularly for patients in poor neurological state, prediction of the acute clinical course is difficult, as is the early detection of DCI. LÄS MER
2. Changes in gene expression during delayed neuronal death after cerebral ischemia in the rat
Sammanfattning : After transient global cerebral ischemia, selected populations of neurons in the brain will die after a period of 2-3 days, a phenomenon termed delayed neuronal death. This is of clinical importance as delayed neuronal death has been found to occur in humans as well. LÄS MER
3. Glutamate Turnover and Energy Metabolism in Brain Injury : Clinical and Experimental Studies
Sammanfattning : During brain activity neurons release the major excitatory transmitter glutamate, which is taken up by astrocytes and converted to glutamine. Glutamine returns to neurons for re-conversion to glutamate. This glutamate-glutamine cycle is energy demanding. LÄS MER
4. Development and Characterization of a Global Brain Ischemia Model in the Mouse -A Genetic and Pharmacological Approach
Sammanfattning : Brain ischemia is a major cause of death and morbidity in the industrialized countries. It is mainly caused by stroke, but may also be the consequence of successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation in victims of cardiac arrest, known as transient global ischemia. LÄS MER
5. Cerebral Injury in Perinatal Asphyxia, epidemiological, clinical, neurophysiological and neuromatabolic investigations
Sammanfattning : Perinatal asphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is the most important cause of perinatal mortality and cerebral palsy (CP) in infants born at term. The aim of the thesis was to investigate epidemiology of perinatal asphyxia, and to investigate early clinical neurological symptoms after perinatal asphyxia in relation to cerebral glucose metabolism (CMRgl) measured by 18-FDG-PET, neurophysiological function, some biochemical markers, also in relation to long-term outcome.
