    Sammanfattning : Air pollution is a major concern in developed countries due to its hazardous health effects. Recent studies by the WHO (World Health Organization) estimate that urban air pollution causes a number of diseases of the respiratory tract and is associated with 150,000 deaths each year. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) is an experimental technique for the high-resolution depth profiling of thin films. Commonly, ions with energies between several ten to a few hundred keV are employed as probes, and backscattered particles are detected. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Beyond scattering – what more can be learned from pulsed keV ion beams?

    Författare :Svenja Lohmann; Daniel Primetzhofer; Andreas Wucher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Charge exchange; Deep UV photons; Electron emission; Silicon; Sputtering; TOF-MEIS; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions of energetic ions with matter govern processes as diverse as the influence of solar wind, hadron therapy for cancer treatment and plasma-wall interactions in fusion devices, and are used for controlled manipulation of materials properties as well as analytical methods. The scattering of ions from target nuclei and electrons does not only lead to energy deposition, but can induce the emission of different secondary particles including electrons, photons, sputtered target ions and neutrals as well as nuclear reaction products. 5. 5. Metabolic Engineering of Recombinant Protein Production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Zihe Liu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; recombinant protein production; genome sequencing; DNA microarray; insulin precursor; growth rate; UV mutation; yeast; anaerobic electron acceptor; secretory pathway; unfolded protein response; metabolic engineering; systems biology; α-amylase;

    Sammanfattning : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a widely used cell factory for the production of fuels, chemicals, and it also provides a platform for the production of many heterologous proteins of medical or industrial interest. In this thesis, random and rational approaches, such as vector design, host engineering, fermentation analysis, UV Mutation, coupled with high-throughput systems biology techniques (including whole genomic sequencing, microarray analysis and flux analysis) and integrated analysis (Reporter feature technique), were employed to engineer cellular properties more effectively and purposefully to construct cell factories for protein production.
