11. A Signal Processing Approach to Practical Neurophysiology : A Search for Improved Methods in Clinical Routine and Research
Sammanfattning : Signal processing within the neurophysiological field is challenging and requires short processing time and reliable results. In this thesis, three main problems are considered.First, a modified line source model for simulation of muscle action potentials (APs) is presented. LÄS MER
12. Chemical proteomics for drug target deconvolution and to study biological systems
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry-based proteomics has become an irreplaceable method for the unbiased and system-wide study of protein chemistry. As modern proteomics methods can not only be applied to quantify protein expression levels, but also monitor changes in post-translational modifications, subcellular localization, turnover rate, and lastly protein structures, it has become a method of choice for drug discovery and dissecting cellular processes. 13. Predicting the sound field from aeroacoustic sources on moving vehicles : Towards an improved urban environment
Sammanfattning : In a society where environmental noise is becoming a major health and economical concern, sound emissions are an increasingly critical design factor for vehicle manufacturers. With about a quarter of the European population living close to roads with heavy traffic, traffic noise in urban landscapes has to be addressed first. LÄS MER
14. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 15. Maximum a posteriori deconvulution of ultrasonic data with applications in nondestructive testing : Multiple transducer and robustness is
Sammanfattning : In the thesis, various aspects of deconvolution of ultrasonic pulse-echo signals in nondestructive testing are treated. The deconvolution problem is formulated as estimation of a reflection sequence which is the impulse characteristic of the inspected object and the estimation is performed using either maximum a posteriori (MAP) or linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimators.
