21. Experimental Studies of the Synthesis and the Survival Probability of Transactinides
Sammanfattning : In 1999 scientists in Dubna announced the successful synthesis of the nucleus 283112 by the reaction 48Ca+ 238U, with a cross-section of 5.0 pb. The isotope was found to decay by spontaneous fission (t1/2=81 s). LÄS MER
22. Hadron Physics in a Polarized World : Exploring Electromagnetic Interactions with Spin Observables
Sammanfattning : The electromagnetic interactions of hadrons serve as a valuable probe of the nature of the strong force at low energies and simultaneously allow for tests of fundamental discrete symmetries. In this thesis, I show how polarization observables can be used to gain an in-depth understanding of these processes and present two analyses of data from the BESIII experiment where such observables have been studied. 23. Experimental Studies of Neutron Deficient Nuclei in the A ≈ 110 and A ≈ 170 Mass Regions
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis describes several experimental studies on the structures of neutron-deficient nuclei with mass numbers A≈110 and A≈170. The experiments were carried out at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, using heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions induced by beams of energies around 5 megaelectronvolts/nucleon. 24. Precision Improvements of Penning Trap Mass Measurements Using Highly Charged Ions : Applications to solving current problems in fundamental physics
Sammanfattning : In my thesis I describe the improvements of the Penning trap mass spectrometer SMILETRAP. The objective of these improvements have been to increase the reliability and the accuracy with which an atomic mass can be measured using highly charged ions. LÄS MER
25. Activity-dependent changes of synaptic transmission in a long-term perspective and processes involved
Sammanfattning : Synaptic plasticity is an essential property of the central nervous system. It is thought torepresent a mechanism for memory aquisition, storage and recall. The most well studied forms ofsynaptic plasticity are homosynaptic NMDAR-dependent LTP and LTD in the hippocampus inducedby specific patterns of electrical stimulation. LÄS MER
