6. Toward Sequential Data Assimilation for NWP Models Using Kalman Filter Tools
Sammanfattning : The aim of the meteorological data assimilation is to provide an initial field for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and to sequentially update the knowledge about it using available observations. Kalman filtering is a robust technique for the sequential estimation of the unobservable model state based on the linear regression concept. LÄS MER
7. Dynamical aspects of atmospheric data assimilation in the tropics
Sammanfattning : A faithful depiction of the tropical atmosphere requires three-dimensional sets of observations. Despite the increasing amount of observations presently available, these will hardly ever encompass the entire atmosphere and, in addition, observations have errors. Additional (background) information will always be required to complete the picture. LÄS MER
8. Beyond the deterministic approach - on the feasibility of data assimilation methods in geotechnics
Sammanfattning : The surge in economic and social development has resulted in significant challenges, especially for linear physical infrastructure. A substantial part of the ageing physical linear infrastructure has been built on problematic soils and often have poorly documented foundation solutions. LÄS MER
9. On Numerical Tracer Advection in the Stratosphere and Assimilation of Data from Satellites
Sammanfattning : Since the early 1980's, large scale ozone depletion has been observed in the lower regions of the ozone layer over Antarctica when sunlight returns to the polar region in the early spring. The destruction of ozone is attributed to anthropogenic emissions of freon and halon compounds that have augmented the natural stratospheric concentrations of nonreactive Clx and Brx reservoir species with several hundred percent. 10. Decadal analysis of stratospheric ozone depletion using data assimilation and Odin/SMR measurements
Sammanfattning : Serious ozone depletion has been measured every Antarctic spring since the early 80’s. This ozone depletion is considered to be a result of photo-chemical reactions and catalytic cycles resulting from anthropogenic halogen containing gases. facilitated by the formation of Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSCs).
