  1. 1. A multi-faceted approach to a "dark taxon" : The hyperdiverse and poorly known scuttle flies (Diptera: Phoridae)

    Författare :Emily Hartop; Fredrik Ronquist; Torbjørn Ekrem; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biodiversity; taxonomy; dark taxa; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the unknown animal biodiversity on earth is in groups of invertebrates that are hyperdiverse and abundant, yet poorly known (“dark taxa”). The study of these organisms requires a multi-faceted approach and methodologies designed to tackle large numbers of species and specimens. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Urbanised Nature in the Past : Site formation and Environmental Developement in Two Swedish Towns, AD 1200-1800

    Författare :Jens Heimdahl; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Jane Sidell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban stratigraphy; environmental reconstruction; site formation; geoarchaeology; dark earth; macrofossil analysis; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : In order to explore site formations and reconstruct environmental development in Medieval and Post-Medieval towns, urban occupational strata in Norrköping and Karlstad were studied according to biostratigraphy, sedimentology and pedology. New field procedures including continuous pilot sampling, parallel archaeological and geological stratigraphic interpretation, and on-site analysis of plant macrofossils were developed and applied at archaeological excavations in both towns. 3. 3. Seeing the invisible: Evolution of wing interference patterns in Hymenoptera, and their application in taxonomy

    Författare :Ekaterina Shevtsova; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcidoidea; parasitic wasps; structural colors; visual signaling; cryptic species; sexual dimorphism; wing membrane thickness; wing micro-morphology; wing cuticle ultrastructure;

    Sammanfattning : The remarkably thin transparent wing membranes in tiny wasps may appear to have a simple structural design, but hide a largely unexplored complex of micro-morphological features that serve aerodynamics and may also function in visual signaling. I found that when such small transparent wings are viewed against a dark background they display vivid structural color patterns due to thin film interference, and named them Wing Interference Patterns (WIPs). 4. 4. From forests to microbiomes : The mediation of plant-soil systems by root-symbiotic fungi

    Författare :Tarquin Netherway; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Plant-microbial symbioses play crucial roles in ecological and biogeochemical processes such as carbon and nutrient cycling, plant-soil feedback, and evolutionary dynamics. However, less is known about how these symbioses influence the broader soil microbial communities (microbiomes) that they interact with, which is essential to understanding the ecosystem processes they facilitate. 5. 5. Functional Profiling Of Metabolic Regulation In Marine Bacteria

    Författare :Saraladevi Muthusamy; Jarone Pinhassi; Torsten Thomas; Sarala Devi Muthusamy; Institutionen för biologi och miljö (BOM) Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine microbiology; physiology; heterotrophic bacteria; adaptive strategies; survival; proteomics; growth phase; proteorhodopsin; inorganic sulphur oxidation; anaplerotic CO2 fixation; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Oceans are powered by active, metabolically diverse microorganisms, which are important in regulating biogeochemical cycles on Earth. Most of the ocean surface is often limited by nutrients, influencing bacterial growth and activities. LÄS MER
