  1. 1. The effects of exposure to microplastics and pollutants on the arthropod microbiome

    Författare :Javier Edo Varg; Richard Svanbäck; Jarone Pinhassi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecotoxicology; host microbiota; freshwater; anthropogenic pollution; microplastics; pesticides; pyrethroids; detergents; toxic metals; daphnids; chironomids; water boatmen; damselflies; dragonflies;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic pollution is widespread across various ecosystems. This disturbance can alter the interaction between a host and its associated microbiome, with repercussions for hosts traits such as health, behavior, and host evolution. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Daphnids adaptive strategies to UV radiation

    Författare :Carla Eloisa Fernández; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :Cladocera; Zooplankton; Andean lakes; Daphnia; Ultraviolet radiation; Migration strategy; Photo-protection;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the adaptive strategies of daphnids that allows them to maintain stable populations while deal with UV radiation, highlighting the differences in the responses that populations with different evolutionary histories may have.Although exposition to lethal doses in nature is unlikely, sub-lethal UV-B radiation doses may have strong impacts on zooplankton. 3. 3. Microbiome Of Ecotoxicity Assays

    Författare :Asa Motiei; Elena Gorokhova; Natàlia Corcoll; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biofilm; Microplastics; Suspended solids; Aquatic toxicology; Daphnia magna; Ecotoxicology; Bacterial colonization; Particle aggregation; Microbiome interaction; Standardization; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present in animal microbiomes, particulates, and colonizable surfaces of test systems. From an ecotoxicological perspective, they are metabolically active biological compartments that respond to test conditions, including test substances. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of crustacean zooplankton in pelagic nutrient cycling

    Författare :Tobias Vrede; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Biology; nutrients; freshwaters; food web; Cladocera; Calanoida; stoichiometry; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Herbivorous crustacean zooplankton link phytoplankton and other microorganisms withhigher trophic levels in pelagic food webs. Crustaceans show little intraspecificvariation in somatic C:N:P elemental ratios, which may have implications for theregulation of zooplankton growth and for nutrient cycling. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Chlorinated Paraffins: improved understanding of their bioaccumulation and toxicity in Daphnia magna

    Författare :Mafalda Castro; Magnus Breitholtz; Anna Sobek; Elena Gorokhova; Lillemor Asplund; Martin Scheringer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorinated paraffins; POPs; bioaccumulation; toxicity; ecotoxicology; aquatic toxicology; daphnia magna; liposomes; passive dosing; hydrophobic; mixtures; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are industrial chemicals, mainly used as flame retardants, plasticizers and metal cutting fluids. Their production has reached historically high levels in the last decade, with an annual production exceeding one million tonnes. LÄS MER
