1. Ductile damage modeling of the machining process
Sammanfattning : Machining processes are among the most common manufacturing processes for producing components used on a daily basis. It is a complex material removal process. Today, the research and development within the manufacturing industry is addressed by cost efficient numerical simulation strategies rather than by costly experimental procedures. LÄS MER
2. Plasticity Driven Damage and Void Growth
Sammanfattning : Plasticity induced damage evolution is considered using a thermodynamical approach. Different postulates on how to include the effects of damage in the constitutive equations have been studied. The results reveal that a mapping, similar to that of the stress, of both the kinematic and isotropic hardening variables is to be preferred. LÄS MER
3. Towards frost damage prediction in asphaltic pavements
Sammanfattning : Roads are subjected to mechanical loads from the traffic as well as deteriorating mechanisms originating from the surrounding environment and climate. The damage arising is particularly severe during the winter season, when for example raveling, pot holes and cracks can emerge on the surfaces of asphaltic roads. LÄS MER
4. Ecology and Evolution of Resistance to Herbivory : Trichome Production in Arabidopsis lyrata
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I examine variation in occurrence and performance of glabrous and trichome-producing plants of the perennial herb Arabidopsis lyrata. I combine field studies and genetic analysis to (1) examine the function of trichomes as a resistance character in natural populations, (2) compare the magnitude of population differentiation in trichome-production and at putatively neutral marker loci, (3) examine the molecular genetic basis of trichome-production, and (4) quantify the effects of herbivore removal on population growth and relative performance of glabrous and trichome-producing plants. 5. Plasticity and Damage Mechanics for Modeling Concrete Failure
Sammanfattning : Concrete structures exhibit strongly non-linear and complex mechanical behavior. Hence, they are nowadays often analyzed by means of the finite element method, whereby a realistic description of the material behavior is decisive for the validity of the results. LÄS MER
