  1. 1. Ion transport in exocrine glands with reference to cystic fibrosis

    Författare :Ailing Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ion transport; cystic fibrosis; submandibular gland; airway submucosal gland; X-ray microanalysis; cytosolic Ca2 concentration; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : Aspects of ion transport in rat submandibular gland acinar cells at the subcellular level, and the regulation of chloride secretion and calcium mobilization in cultured pig tracheal gland acinar cells were studied with reference to the disease cystic fibrosis.In adult rat submandibular gland acinar cells, both cholinergic and α-adrenergic stimulation induced efflux of K+ and of C1-, but the response was generally less with α-adrenergic stimulation. 2. 2. Vacuolar Ca2+-ATPases in Plants. Regulation by calmodulin binding to a N-terminal autoinhibitory domain

    Författare :Susanna Malmström; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; N terminus; autoinhibitory domain; vacuole; calmodulin; calcium; plants; Ca2 -ATPase; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is essential for all plant and animal life. One important function of Ca2+ is as a second messenger in the responses of the cell to environmental and hormonal signals as well as in some intrinsic developmental processes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stimulation of insulin secretion independently from changes in cytosolic free Ca²+-concentration : studies with imidazolines and inositol polyphosphates

    Författare :Alexander Efanov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :insulin secretion; pancreatic ß-cell; imidazolines; inositol polyphosphates;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin secretion from the islets of Langerhans is regulated by changes in glucose concentration. Glucose stimulates secretion by two mechanisms. First, it increases cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) by inhibition of ATP-dependent K+-channels (KATP) and induction of membrane depolarization. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulation of Intracellular Calcium in Brown Adipocytes

    Författare :Shi-Jin Zhang; Lawrence C.H Wang; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Intracellular Ca2+ is considered a primary regulator of cell function. In the present study, the control and the effects of intracellular Ca2+ in brown adipocytes have been investigated. Cytosolic Ca2+ levels ([Ca2+]i) are the resultant of the activity of Ca2+ transport systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Intracellular signaling of phosphorylated insitol compounds : a study in pancreatic beta-cells and hippocampal neurons

    Författare :Jia Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :InsP6; L-type Ca 2 channel; hippocampal neuron; Ins 1; 4; 5 P3; Ca2 ; cyt-MIPP; pancreatic beta-cell; PtdIns 3; 4; 5 P3; Ptdlns 3; 5 P2.;

    Sammanfattning : The family of phosphorylated inositol compounds consists of soluble cytosolic inositol phosphates and insoluble inositol phospholipids, localized in cellular membranes and the nuclear matrix. Although inositol phospholipids only account for 5-10% of total plasma membrane lipids, these compounds and their inositol phosphate derivatives play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes including intracellular Ca 2+ signalling, ion channel regulation, vesicle trafficking, both exo- and endocytosis, cell growth and apoptosis.
